So there's a few things you may or may not know about, they all may be a bit of a journey for you but that, atleast for me, is usually a great part of the experience. So on tha weekend following the solstice (june 22-25) some amazing folks folks from communities both in alberta and on the west coast are coming together to put on an inspiring and fully next level conference and Festival. So thats the Entheos Gathering, its gonna be located in Cherryville, BC in the northern Okanogan about 6 hours from both Vancouver and Calgary. Check the website for sure www.entheosgathering.com/ This one is special, top quality on all levels, refreshingly focused on a fully integrated multimedia experience that promises to be not only a fun time but perhaps a educational and inspiring one.
And so if that doesnt fit somehow into what you invisioned for your solstice time the only other thing I know of for sure is a beautiful little folk festival up in northern Alberta called The North Country Fair. This will in fact be the first time since I was two years old I wont be attending as I'm feelin called to the afore mentioned gathering. So it just moved to a gorgeous new site last year up near Joussard, if possible I would suggest volunteering and going up early to do site prep, its really exciting because for the first time they own the land so alot of work is building permanant strucures and the like so you really get to leave a bit of you there for years to come, (plus thats when the real party is...
)but I digress. Its a folk festival, so you know tha vibe, but for the first time in NCF history they had a DJ stage last year which I thought was a great addition. Last year they also had a seperate Soltice celebration on a different part of the land which was much more low key and magical, I would assume something similar is happening this year. And being so far north is neat because the sun barely goes away on solstice day. So here's that website www.lslncca.ca/current/ And If this is your choice I know a bunch of kidz that head up from calgary every year so If your interested message me and I could try and hook up a ride fer ya.

anyways hope that was of some help, All the best on whatever you end up doing.

hey ya NCF will be one hell of a party. there is the electronic stage that will be pumpin out the beats #am onward. but there is some wikkid folk/rock/drum music the whole weekend that will rock anyones musical stylings. i also have a booth there selling hula hoops to the world! so if anyone goes make sure to come and say hi! but nonetheless it is a magical party perfect for solstice :)

The folk festival sounds like it would be a wicked way to spend the solstice! If only i had a way of getting out there... I amost wish I had stayed in BC for an extra month so I could have gone to the etheos gathering, but meh. Ill keep looking for something more central to downtown though. It seems calgary's core is more or less a wasteland for good music unless you count the odd show at the legion or random bars. Hopefully theres something going on in town!
